The MTV Awards have unveiled their nominees across various categories, from best video and best choreography to best Afrobeat,  Push performance of the year and other amazing categories.


Burna Boy- Afrobeat Artist Leads with Two Nominations in MTV

Global Afrobeat star BurnaBoy earned two nominations this season.

  • Best Afrobeat – ‘TaTaTa’ featuring Travis Scott
  • Best Video For Good – ‘Higher’

Asake Doubles Up in Best Afrobeat

Another big Afrobeat artist, Asake, also received two nods in the Best Afrobeat category:

  • ‘Active’ featuring Travis Scott
  • ‘Get it right’ by Tems featuring Asake

The Best Afrobeat category is stacked with incredible talent this year:

  • Rema – Baby (Is It A Crime)
  • Tyla – Push 2 Start

  • Moliy the Ghanaian artist, with Silent Addy, Skillibeng, and Shenseea for their remix ‘Shake It To The Max’ (Fly).

Push Performance Afrobeat MTV Nominee of the Year

In the Push Performance of the Year category, Ayra Starr got nominated for “Last Heart’s Break,” released in September 2024.

  • Bruno Mars follows closely with 11 nominations.
  • Kendrick Lamar earned 10 nominations across multiple categories.
  • Beyoncé and Taylor Swift will once again go head-to-head in Artist of the Year, continuing their long-standing competition for the most career wins at the VMAs.
  • Ariana Grande and The Weeknd each scored seven nominations.
  • Billie Eilish picked up six nominations.
  • Charli XCX, fresh from a year of multiple releases, earned five nominations.
  • Bad Bunny, Doechii, Ed Sheeran, Jelly Roll, Miley Cyrus, and Tate McRae each received four nominations.
