Finally, the MTV Awards have announced their winners after a long list of nominees. Announcing the Best Afrobeat of the Year, Tyla took the prize. She came out as the best among the seven of them who were nominated.

The Hit That Got Tyla the Best Afrobeat 2025: MTV Awards
“Push 2 Start” was the hit that got her the award. Released on October 25th, 2024 by Fax and Epic Records.
The song once peaked at number 88 on the US billboard Hot 100 and No 1 on the UK Afrobeat single chart. She performed the song during her homecoming tour in South Africa.
However, her first directorial credit came from the remix video of “Push 2 Start.” The song won certifications such as platinum, gold and silver in different countries.
Afrobeat MTV Awards Winners
The video crossed 400,000 views within 9 hours of its release. Lee-Che choreographed it, and the music was also nominated for Best Choreography.
The Afrobeat singer Rema won the Best Afrobeat award in 2023. He was nominated for his hit “Calm Down.”
Wizkid also won an MTV Award in the best Cinematography section in 2021 for his song “Brown Skin Girl”.

Lady Gaga got the highest award of the year. Getting 12 nominations, she received four awards, winning Artist of the year.
Following Lady Gaga is Ariana Grande, who received seven nominations and won the best video Award of the year.
