Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has died following a battle with stage 4 liver cancer.
News of his passing began circulating on Tuesday alongside a statement announcing that the actor died on Monday at a hospital in Lagos after his condition reportedly deteriorated. According to the statement, Ekubo had been diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer in 2024 and later underwent treatment, including a liver transplant.
The statement explained that although he briefly returned to work after the procedure, the transplanted liver later failed again, leading to further complications before his death.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alex Ekubo, who died on Monday at a hospital in Lagos,” the statement read.
It also appealed to the public to avoid spreading false information surrounding his illness and asked that his family be allowed privacy during the difficult period.
Months of Public Absence Had Sparked Concern
In recent months, fans had begun expressing concern over the actor’s noticeable absence from social media and public events.
Known for maintaining a visible online presence, his silence had triggered speculation across entertainment circles, especially after his last public posts became increasingly infrequent.
The reports surrounding his health now appear to explain the long period away from the spotlight.

His polished screen presence and consistency in film made him a regular figure within the Nigerian entertainment industry, earning him a loyal fanbase across Africa.
Beyond acting, he also became known for his appearances at fashion events, award ceremonies, and pop culture gatherings that kept him closely connected to the entertainment scene.
Tributes Begin to Emerge

idia.aisien Dear Alex….
I can be quiet about so many things, but I’m not brave enough to stay mute…I’m literally shaking….I’m so so sorry. You were with me at so many of my lowest points…and you don’t deserve to go this way..not this young. You were always the kindest soul; able to be there for everyone and lend your wisdom— I always joked that you’re at least an 80 year-old living in a young man’s body…
Life is so cruel…May God please comfort your whole family…this really really hurts..
Sleep well my friend and love always…💔💔🙏🏾🕊️🫂🫂
