A few days ago, Nigerian artist Asake was roped into some very sticky situations involving his father, Fatai Odunsi, and a woman who claims to be the mother of his child.
On March 14, Fatai Odunsi publicly appealed for financial assistance, stating that he has been battling a partial stroke since 2022.
In the now-viral video, he alleged that Asake had not supported him during this time and claimed their last contact was in March 2022. Odunsi was joined by his brother, Sonibare, who explained that they had exhausted all resources and were seeking public help for urgent medical care.
Furthermore, actor and singer Adams Kehinde, also known as Lege Miami, disclosed that Odunsi had reached out to him for help. Lege Miami shared that the latter had expressed disappointment over his son’s lack of response, while he dealt with financial struggles and health challenges. According to the actor, Odunsi revealed he was relying on general hospital treatment because he couldn’t afford better healthcare.

During the same time, Adijat, a woman claiming to be Asake’s former partner, accused him of neglecting her and their alleged 11-year-old daughter, Zeenat. She stated that during Asake’s university years, she supported him financially, often sending him money from her thrift savings. She alleged that after his rise to fame, he severed ties with her, blocked her on all platforms, and refused to acknowledge their child.
Adijat revealed that all her attempts to reestablish contact with the Lonely at the Top rapper were met with resistance. She also recounted how their daughter had to grow without getting consistent support from her father.
Recent reports claim that Asake’s family has asked him to purchase a ₦50 million house for his father, as well as assume responsibility for his alleged daughter. Adijat has even expressed her willingness to take a DNA test to confirm Zeenat’s paternity.
Nigerian Artist Asake Addresses Both Allegations
On Sunday, March 16, following public outcry, Nigerian Artist Asake agreed to resolve and meet the demands of his family, including taking responsibility of his 11-year-old daughter. The singer has reconciled with his father and has promised to address the latter’s financial and medical needs. He reportedly promised to purchase a house for his father, cover his medical expenses, and ensure his well-being. This resolution brought relief to Fatai Odunsi, who publicly expressed pride in his son and confirmed that their grievances had been settled.
However, before this new development, Asake addressed the matter in a TikTok video. Singing in Yoruba, he said, “You can’t please everyone…I have struggled for so many years but they want to make me tired of life.”
Asake maintained that he had supported his father in the past by providing financial assistance and that his father’s recent actions were attempts to manipulate him.
Public sentiment doesn’t seem to be leaning too strongly on any side as of the time of writing. Some Nigerian celebrities have publicly criticized Asake for allegedly abandoning his daughter and neglecting his father’s health. Others have defended him, arguing that he has the right not to offer any help since his father abandoned him years ago.
