The feud between Nigerian twin singers Peter and Paul Okoye, popularly known as P-Square, just got a lot uglier recently. On Friday, Paul, who goes by the stage name Rudeboy, took to social media to accuse his brother Peter, known as Mr P, of stealing a song that he says he wrote.
The song in question is the new track titled “Winning,” released by Mr P on November 8. Rudeboy stated on Instagram that he was the original writer of the song and had initially recorded it with an unnamed producer. He claims that the same producer went on to re-record it with Mr P.
He posted, “Song title: Winning. Written and sang by Rudeboy. Produced by the same producer. Now how come? Now am I supposed to release another version?”
The “Reason With Me” artist alleged that Mr P re-recorded the song without his permission, even though Rudeboy wishes to include it in his upcoming album. He also mentioned that he had sent in six songs to Psquare’s management.
“I submitted six songs to the so-called management. Why re-singing my own song? Word for word. A song that was supposed to be in my album next year, June,” he wrote.
In another post on Instagram, Rudeboy called out his management, stating that their “days of manipulation are over.” He also warned that he would release the original versions of any songs that the management attempts to duplicate.
“Make I hear any song wey na only me sing, I go release the original version. Music is not that hard!”
The Producer that Rudeboy was referring to is Beatz Vampire Craze. According to the Guardian.ng, Vampire Craze stated in an Instagram story that he was indeed involved in the production and recording of “Winning,” for which he was compensated. However, he claims that he did not participate in anything beyond that.
“I produced and recorded Winning for P-Square in 2022. I sent the stems to P-Square for mixing and mastering, got paid, and left Lagos. Two years later, one Square released the song. How is that my fault?”
P-Square debuted in the 1990s as a duo consisting of twin brothers, with their older brother, Jude Okoye, managing them. They are behind hit songs like Senorita, Bizzy Body, Temptation, and Beautiful Onyinye.
The group split in 2017 due to management issues but reconciled in 2021, just in time for their birthday. To mark their reunion, they released a comeback album titled “Reactivated.”
In August, during an interview with City FM, Rudeboy announced that they would no longer be performing as P-Square. At the time, Rudeboy stated that Mr. P had put him and Jude, under investigation for financial crimes, accusing them of transferring a large share of P-Square’s royalties into a private account.
Despite the recent accusation from Rudeboy, Mr P appears to be undeterred. He continues to actively promote his music and has also announced that he will be releasing another new song titled “Attention.”
