Shatta Wale, the self-proclaimed King of Dance Hall, shared the cover art of his upcoming album Konekt with his Twitter fans on May 15, 2023.
Shatta posted the music video for the first single, Wetin, the day before, to the delight of his fans:
Wetin is produced by Izjoebeats, an unknown upcoming music producer, songwriter and artist chosen at random by Shatta Wale. The video is filmed in Shatta’s mansion, surrounded by his Shatta movement team, with the lyrics reflecting on his journey so far.
Shatta has been reaching out to his fanbase for beat submissions in recent months, giving the young and unknown the opportunity to work with him on his projects. This has been welcomed by the industry as a great way to involve young talent and pave a way for a new generation of afrobeats, dancehall and afro rap musicians.
The Konekt Album cover art sees Shatta sitting on a pile of instruments; perhaps to symbolise the idea of connecting with young talent on this project? We won’t know this until we see the complete track list and the production behind it.
Shatta Wale did not confirm the release date of Konekt but promised another video from the project a week after the release of Wetin.
