Davido Officially Joins King Charles III’s Commonwealth Playlist

Davido has officially made it to King Charles III’s personal Commonwealth music playlist, a selection of songs the monarch himself calls the “soundtrack of his life.”

The playlist, which was released today, in celebration of Commonwealth Day, it features a diverse range of artists from Commonwealth nations. Among them are legendary reggae musician Bob Marley, Australian pop icon Kylie Minogue, Jamaican-British singer Grace Jones, British singer-songwriter Raye, and Davido himself.

King Charles’ Playlist: Where Afrobeats Meets Royalty

Every year, the British monarch leads the Commonwealth Day celebrations, an occasion meant to unite 56 countries across the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, and beyond. However, this year, King Charles III has taken a different approach. In collaboration with Apple Music, he has launched “The King’s Music Room”, a special program recorded straight from Buckingham Palace, featuring a handpicked selection of songs that hold personal significance.

Explaining the inspiration behind the playlist, King Charles III shared:

Throughout my life, music has meant a great deal to me. I know that is also the case for so many others. So this is what I particularly wanted to share – songs which have brought me joy. This seemed such an interesting and innovative way to celebrate this year’s Commonwealth Day.

This acknowledgment of music’s universal impact aligns with King Charles’ longstanding appreciation for diverse cultures. In fact, he once visited Bob Marley’s home in Jamaica, demonstrating his deep admiration for reggae and African sounds. Now, with Davido’s inclusion, Afrobeats has received yet another stamp of global recognition; one that reinforces its status as a world-dominating genre.

Davido’s Response and Upcoming Projects

While the specific Davido song featured on the playlist has now been revealed as Kante featuring Dave from the Timeless album, the Afrobeats legend remains at the center of major music conversations with exciting new announcements.

Just days before the playlist’s release, Davido confirmed the launch of his upcoming single, Be There Still, set to drop on March 14. Sharing the news via social media, he wrote:

“Vibes that never fade. This one is special. ‘Be There Still’ coming March 14th.

Additionally, Davido acknowledged his feature on the Commonwealth playlist, encouraging fans to tune in. In a post on X, he shared:

“The King’s Music Room drops on Apple Music 1 this Monday including music from me, March 10 at 6 AM—free for everyone.

Or catch it anytime on demand with Apple Music. We’re running it back all Monday and Tuesday on Apple Music 1 & Apple Music Hits.

Tap in! 🚀”

Beyond this, anticipation is also building for his forthcoming album, titled 5IVE, now officially scheduled for release on April 18, 2025. Describing the project, Davido stated:

My story, my truth, and my growth.

With this album, Davido aims to deliver yet another defining moment in his career, following a legacy of chart-topping hits and global milestones. His presence on King Charles III’s playlist is another personal achievement and a further proof of Afrobeats’ unstoppable rise on the world stage.

As of today, King Charles III’s Commonwealth playlist is officially live, bringing together sounds from across the globe in a celebration of music, culture, and unity.

Afrobeats isn’t waiting for permission. It is earning its place—one beat, one track, and now, one royal playlist at a time.
