Asake and Sars’s C’mon look is way down at the 94th position on the top Naija 100 music chart, four months after the song was released for public consumption.
It is safe to say that the song was supposed to usher music lovers into the new year the Asake way, but unfortunately, it was beaten by Fido’s “joy is coming”.
Asake’s Signature Vibe: Lyrics and Lifestyle
The lyrics say a lot about Asake’s commanding presence on stage and his lifestyle as an entertainer. You cannot help but “look” at him. His dress sense, success, local and international followership, and his musical style.

Wo mi o (look at me)
Bi mo she n jo, rọra wo mi o oh (as I dance, carefully look at me)
Straightforward I’m not corny o
Fun wọn ni ijo biti Sunny o oh, Sunny o oh Ade o (Give them like Sunny (Ade) oh, Sunny oh)
Dededede motun gbede o (I’m here, I’m bringing it here again)
Ọmọ t’ọn sọ, rọra pẹlẹ (the talk of the town, take it easy)
I’m so high you can tell o, can tell o
More can be seen in his lyrics in the second verse:
Moti wọle wọn daran, yeah yeah (I’ve come in, they are in trouble, yeah yeah)
Me I no dey fight for number one, uhn uhn
Pay me my money one by one, uhn uhn
F*ck them up with my gbedu, another one

This shows the typical Asake style who is always in a smooth, easy mood, hardly competing with anyone or trying to best anyone. Those who are close to the music superstar say he is always smiling and easy going. As good as it sounds, we can’t say for sure, we do not know him like that.😁
Asake Pays Homage to Sunny Ade, K1 De Ultimate
The song samples the vocals of Fuji musical icon, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal de Ultimate on his “Won Tun Náà” track in his K1 De Ultimate volume 2 album released in 2013.
The song was a massive hit in the Yoruba Fuji music community which continues to influence Nigerian music, especially Afro beats. Asake too is well known to be widely influenced by K1 De Ultimate as in his previous works like his single with Travis Scott, “Active”. K1’ Voice was in the background, singing, “ma jo fine girl” (be dancing, fine girl).

K1 de Ultimate’s vocals als doubles as the title of the track and fans of the Fuji icon would be more than pleased to know that Asake continues to pay homage to the living legend.
He pays homage to the King of Nigerian Juju and Highlife music, King Sunny Ade who is also an influence on many Nigerian growing up in the late 90’s. His words:
Fun wọn ni ijo biti Sunny o oh, Sunny o oh Ade o (Give them like Sunny (Ade) oh, Sunny oh)
shows his homage. Sunny Ade is known, not just for his catchy songs, but his dancing which made him one of the most popular acts in his hay days in the later years of the 1970s; down to the late 90s. Asake too is a dancer, though not as dedicated as King Sunny Ade was in his hay days.

Some believe that Asake decided to tune down on the dancing after he had his wardrobe malfunction at his performance at the 02 Arena in the UK. He was trying to perform the iconic “Gbese” dance which ends with a jumping kick; and rip! There goes Asake’s pants splitting in the middle in a huge tear! He had to put his legs together, hopping to the rest of the tune in an attempt to mask the malfunction. This also influenced his baggy pant style; helping him permanently avoid another malfunction in his career.
Asake’s Post-YBNL Moves: Asake’s Bold Leap
Asake has been under scrutiny by a chunk of the Afrobeat world since leaving Olamide’s YBNL in February. He left YBNL for his own record label, Giran Republic. His leave, after spending two years with Olamide came as he released his song “Why Love” under his new label.
These critics believe that Asake’s exit was too soon for him. They opine that he should have spent a little more time to mature under the label. They believe he shouldn’t let his fast-paced success push him into the gruelling world of music business on his own. We can only wait for time to tell if the move was good for Asake who redefined his look recently. His new look had him lose his facial hair and put on some facial tattoos.

C’mon Look: A Peek At Sarz’s Experimental Edge
Sarz on the other hand is a well-known music producer in the Nigerian/Afrobeat scene. He is fondly known for generating hits with the hottest talents in the genre, churning out some unforgettable tunes. Some of those talents include Wizkid, Wurld, Davido, Tems, Burna Boy and 2Baba. He has also cut his teeth with international superstars, including Beyonce, Drake, Skepta and Chris Brown.
Many are of the opinion that this collaboration with Asake is Sarz’s walk on the wild side. They believe it’s his take on doing something radically different. His radical experiment surely paid off, spending 15 weeks at the eleventh position on the Naija top 100 music chart.
Sarz x Asake’s C’mon Look – A Song That Refuses to Fade
All in all, Sarz and Asake’s C’mon look, despite being four months old, continues to hold sway in Nigerian Afrobeat. This comes in a world where songs go stale almost every week. Who knows, it might just last a little longer.
