Released on November 22, 2024, Morayo was launched through RCA Records and Starboy Entertainment. The album is a heartfelt tribute to his late mother, Juliana Morayo Balogun, who passed away in August 2023. The title, meaning “I see joy” in Yoruba, reflects his dedication to her memory and the positive energy she brought to his life.

Blending Culture and Sound

The album’s 16 tracks beautifully combine Afrobeats and R&B, featuring lyrics in English, Yoruba, and Nigerian Pidgin. This mix reflects Wizkid’s pride in his culture and origin. In an interview with Esquire, Wizkid emphasized the importance of his heritage, stating:

“It’s very important for people to know where the source of my magic comes from. I’m African, I’m Nigerian; that’s my blood, that’s my DNA. So, it’s important for me to push [Yoruba] out there – let people know about my culture. I like to know about everyone else’s culture, their way of life, and this is mine.”

While the album’s success on streaming platforms is remarkable, its cultural significance and musical depth are what truly set it apart. Moreover, the album features collaborations with an impressive roster of artists, including Asake, Anaïs Cardot, Brent Faiyaz, Jazmine Sullivan, and Tiakola. These collaborations have elevated the album’s sound, blending Wizkid’s unique style with the talents of his featured guests.

“I hope it lifts spirits and spreads positive energy.”
