OliveTheBoy, the rising Afrobeats singer from Ghana, signed a deal with Sony Music’s Columbia Records via Bu Vision Entertainment. Bu Vision is owned by Bu Thiam, the Vice President of Columbia Records and Akon’s younger brother.

The artist, his record label, and management Loop Music/Full CircL Management Ltd agreed on and signed the record deal. There was a special unveiling ceremony on Friday, August 23, 2023, to seal official arrangements.

Bu Vision realised the artist’s potential after his hit single, Goodsin, went viral and hit the international scene after its release in May. He was immediately recommended to Sony/Columbia Records. In June, he was named number one in the official Chartmetrics list of the Top five most streamed Ghanaian artists in the first half of 2023. This comes from five different streaming platforms, including Spotify, Audiomack, Tiktok, Boomplay and YouTube. OliveTheBoy would join the likes of Wizkid, Davido, Angelique Kidjo, and Gyakie as part of African artists to have signed to Sony Music.

OliveTheBoy Signing and Unveiling

This new partnership requires Bu Vision to take care of the rising star’s A&R while all licensing, promotion and distribution of creative works will be managed by Sony/Columbia Records, this also suggests that Loop Music/Full CircL Management Ltd will likely retain ownership of Olivetheboy’s recordings, as it was in previous arrangements.

Mr. Bu Thiam of Bu Vision flew down to Ghana personally to oversee the signing and unveiling of the artist. Therefore, it is only fitting to say that the Sky is only the beginning for the fast-rising star. We wish him nothing but the best in his musical endeavours.
