Ghanaian musician/actor O.J blaq whose real name is Andy Nii Akrashie has passed on. This is following an ongoing struggle with kidney disease which hospitalised him in 2021. The disease left him with significant weight loss which kept his fans worried and concerned. After recovery, his reproach from old habits considered uncouth, was realised as he started worshiping with a church called ‘Empowerment Worship Centre’ as a junior pastor. He even quit circular music and turned to gospel music. He mentioned in an interview that his kidney problem was due to his excess smoking and drinking at the time. The news of his death only left the public to conclude it was due to persisting kidney complications he had battled with earlier, though the actual cause has not been revealed yet.
O.J Blaq rose to fame in 2009 when he released his debut ‘Chale wote’ which was produced by Richie, fellow musician and owner of the music label Lynx entertainment. The same label that signed artist like Asem, Eazzy from earlier days. It has also signed Kidi and Kuami Eugene of present time. The song quickly became a hit on the airwaves all around the country.
He also played a role in the popular Ghanaian TV series ‘SunCity’ that aired on TV back in the days alongside well known Ghanaian actors like Van Vicker, Ekow Smith-Asante, Suzzy Williams of blessed memory etc. The TV series was about the everyday life and experiences of students in the tertiary level.
He will be missed dearly, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones in these difficult times.
